Why upgrade
This kit steps the NA up from 235mm to 280mm front rotors, and the NB from 255mm to 280mm, with Wilwood Forged Dynalite four-piston calipers. Everything you need for the front end is in the box.
What’s in the kit
- 280mm two-piece front rotors (pair). Vented rings on heat-treated T6-6061 aluminium hats, almost 2kg lighter across the pair.
- 280mm caliper adaptor brackets (pair), machined from T6-6061 billet aluminium, hard anodised, with stainless steel Heli-Coils. Bolt kit included.
- Wilwood Forged Dynalite 120-13839 calipers (pair) in aluminium, red or black.
- Wilwood front brake pads, a full set in BP10 (street use) or BP20 (street and track use).
- Front braided brake lines (pair), slightly longer than standard to suit the bigger rotors.
- 1/8″ NPT to M10 x 1.0mm caliper fittings (pair) to connect the lines to the Wilwood inlets.
Ready to fit
Two-piece rotors arrive with the hat and ring already bolted together, runout tested and balanced as an assembly. Always check the hat bolts are at 13–15 ft-lb before fitting, as you would with any two-piece rotor. Otherwise, it’s a direct bolt-on.
Will it fit my car?
Built for the Mazda MX-5 NA and NB. The factory backing plates come off and aren’t refitted. Got an ND? The same 280mm rotors are a direct swap on the ND 2.0L, so you only need the rotors.

Fitting
Remove the hub and the three 12mm bolts holding the backing plate, then refit the hub and torque the hub nut to 167–216Nm (123–159 ft-lb). Fit the brackets with the logo facing the inside of the car and torque to 60Nm (45 ft-lb). Fit the inlet fittings to the calipers with Loctite 262 or equivalent, then mount the calipers (spring washer first, then the flat washer) at 60Nm (45 ft-lb). Fit the braided lines with a copper washer each side of the banjo, bleed the brakes and check nothing rubs. We recommend installation by a licensed mechanic.

- 1″ high volume brake master cylinder for MX-5 NA and NB for a firmer pedal and shorter travel
- 72mm x 3mm pressure bleeder cap for MX-5 NA and NB brake masters. Bleed the brakes on your own.
- Replacement two-piece rotor rings (280mm Mazda MX-5 version) for when the rings wear out
