FAQ's
Q. What are aluminium wheels?
A. Wheels that are referred to as being “Aluminium” are typically made from a cast and are not necessarily forged.
HFM.Parts Forged Wheels are all produced via forging. Hence, the name 😉
Q. What is the difference between cast wheels and forged wheels?
A. Cast wheels are created by following the most common process of alloy wheel manufacturing known as “Casting”. They are made from molten aluminium that is poured into a mold or cast. When the wheel has cooled and is removed from the cast, it is then machined to create the desired look and finish. Due to the process of liquifying and solidifying, the resulting wheel material becomes porous. This can lead to cracking and an overall reduction in the structural integrity of the wheel. In order to increase the strength of the wheel, more material is needed and therefore, the wheel becomes heavier.
Forged wheels are made from a block of solid aluminium which is heated, shaped and CNC machined to finish. This process preserves the integrity of the material thereby creating stronger, less porous and lighter wheels.
Q. Are Flow Forged wheels the same as Forged Wheels?
A. No. Flow Forged Wheels or Flow Formed Wheels are produced from a cast just like any other aluminium wheel and are then heated as spinning discs manipulate the material into the desired shape. This process strengthens the barrel of the wheel, however, does nothing for the center of the cast wheel.
Q. What are the advantages of forged wheels?
A. The forging process retains the wheels structural integrity thereby making these wheels stronger and more durable than other wheels on the market.
Q. Why would I want lighter wheels?
A. Lighter wheels can provide you with increased fuel efficiency and less unsprung weight. That means improved and more responsive acceleration.
